Sought After Car Safety Features

on December 8, 2021

It’s hard to believe that decades ago automobiles were extremely dangerous! If you look back at cars from the past, you can see that these vehicles lacked lots of safety features.  Seat Belts, Airbags, Safety Glass, Anti-Lock Brakes, and others, simply didn’t exist on these vehicles.

Nowadays, there is a huge variety of car safety features!  These safety features in your vehicle not only help keep you safe but also other people in your car!  On top of that, a lot of safety features also help keep other people on the road safe.

Every new vehicle is routinely checked and tested for safety, but some vehicles have more safety features than others.  Let’s look at some of the most sought-after car safety features.

The Basic Safety Features

The number one safety feature that is required in every single vehicle is the seat belt.  Back in the day, seat belts were never even available in cars but statistics have shown that wearing a seat belt can save thousands of lives a year!  Now, seat belts have been required by law to be installed in every new vehicle, and its also required to wear a seat belt at all times.

The next safety feature that can be found in every single vehicle nowadays is deployable airbags. Airbags are now required in every single vehicle, but just like seatbelts. At one point, they were not required until the 1990s. Statistics have shown that the airbag reduces the risk of death by a significant percentage.  Airbags are still being worked on, and there have been dramatic advancements over the years.

Finally, Anti-Lock brakes are installed on nearly every vehicle because it helps prevent accidents. The anti-lock brake mechanism helps prevent accidents during dangerous weather conditions by keeping the vehicles in control.

That’s not all, many automobiles are equipped with four-wheel drive to help improve the vehicle’s traction on the roads, along with safety glass being fairly common to prevent huge shards of glass breaking during a collision.

Advanced Vehicle Safety Features

Due to the advancement in technology, there are an incredible amount of advanced safety features offered in vehicles today.  One of which is, blind spot detection technology. This safety feature allows the driver to be notified if there is a vehicle in their blind spot once they put their changing lanes indicator on.

Essentially, due to the help of radar technology and cameras, a warning light will appear on your rearview mirror and a sound will be deployed to notify you that a vehicle is in your blind spot. This safety feature has helped avoid collisions and accidents.

Next, a much more advanced safety feature is the Pre-Crash Collision Systems.  These use radar technology to help determine how close your vehicle is to the vehicle in front of you based on the speed that you are going.

The pre-crash collision system will notify the driver that his vehicle is too close to the vehicle in front of them by providing a sound alert and some vehicles even have the brakes compress and slow or stop the car altogether!

Other sought-after vehicle safety features include rear-view cameras which are designed to help you back up in reverse so that you can clearly see what is behind you.  A lot of these rear-view cameras will even alert you in the event that you are about to hit something.

There are also emergency response systems, that allow a driver to make hands-free phone calls and be connected to emergency services in the event of an accident.
