Remove Pollen Off Car Quick

on May 18, 2022

Now that spring is here, winter is officially over in most areas of the country.  We all get excited about the warm weather, and spring flowers.  However, the dreaded pollen season also arrives with spring weather.  Not only does pollen destroy some people’s allergies, but it also negatively affects your vehicle.

Pollen looks gross on cars because it turns your vehicle into a yellowish/greenish disaster.  Not only that, but it can also cause extremely rough paint damage when left on your vehicle for long periods of time.

What Does Pollen Do?

When pollen sits on your vehicle for extended periods of time, it can lead not only to paint issues but also rust.  Paint is used on cars to protect the inside metals from becoming damaged.  When that nasty pollen sits on your vehicle, it prevents the paint from protecting your vehicle and begins to expose the metal.

If the paint on your vehicle gets destroyed, and the metal from your car starts to expose.  It will begin to rust from exposure to the outdoors.

How to Remove Pollen Off Car

Washing your vehicle is great, but it is not going to be extremely effective for fully removing pollen from your car.  The most important thing to do prior to washing your vehicle is to do a pre-rinse which is simply spraying the vehicle down with water.  This extra step prior to conducting the actual car wash will remove most of the pollen from your car.

We recommend that you start the pre-rinse by spraying the roof of the vehicle and work your way down towards the bottom of the car.  This allows the water to remove surface pollen slowly off the car using gravity.  Don’t forget the roof and trunk!

Next, you will want to begin your standard car wash using a microfiber towel or sponge.  Make sure you hand wash your vehicle and start from the top to the bottom again.

Once you have fully cleared the vehicle and it is completely dry.  We recommend using some form of paint protection such as car wax.  This will help protect the paint of your vehicle from pollen.

Remember that when removing pollen from your vehicle, do not wipe the pollen off your vehicle without water as this could cause even more damage.  We also don’t recommend just waiting for a rainy day to remove the pollen, because rain won’t fully remove the pollen.

Always remember to continue to DriveSmart, and equip your vehicle with a DriveSmart protection plan in the event that your vehicle suffers from a mechanical failure or breakdown.  DriveSmart will pay for your repairs, so you don’t need to pay out of pocket.
