Theft Prevention and Protection: What Can You Do?

Your car is the first thing that is going to be able to get you from point A to point B. But in the event where it is not where you left it, you could be the victim of a vehicle theft! If you had an idea of how to prevent theft, this could have been prevented.

Let’s go over some things that could help you prevent theft in the future.

Car Keys

Your car keys are the first line of defense that you have when it comes to protecting your car. Find places where you can store your keys in order to have them on you at all times. This can be done by adding a clasp onto your keys, your purse, or anything you will always have on you.

Never leave your keys in your car, and never leave the keys on the tire. This has become an issue, as people are going for runs and leaving their keys on their tires. This is not good, considering that a lot of vehicles have push-start capabilities, and the key will be picked up.

Lock EVERYTHING

Locking your doors and windows is another good tactic that you can use against theft. It is easy to get into a car if the doors are unlocked, and the windows should always be locked to prevent breaking and entering the car.

If locking your doors is not standard practice for you yet, you should change that habit now. Unlocked doors are the main ways that thieves get into the vehicles they steal.

Parking Requirements

You should be parking in well-lit areas, which will make sure that car theft is avoided. People tend to avoid stealing cars that are in a well-lit area, as it makes sure that people can see them. If you park in a well-lit area, you are more likely to come back to your vehicle, and not an empty space.

Valuables

Make sure that if you have to leave valuables in your car, that they are out of sight from your windows. This will ensure that, if people are looking into your car, they see nothing worth the consequences of breaking in.

When it comes to valuable stuff, this means things that are in high demand, things that are immediately recognized as expensive, or things that are old, and could be worth money when sold on the web.

Leaving things as little as beanie babies in your car can cause someone to break in. Make sure that you know the resale price of anything that you plan on decorating your vehicle with. This way you can guarantee that they are not worth the trouble.

Vehicle Protection

Making sure that you have vehicle protection devices in your car can help a lot. Things such as car alarms, flashing lights, and steering wheel locks help to bring attention to the theft taking place and will deter the theft from continuing.

Devices that prevent the ignition from working are great for prevention, as it immobilizes the vehicle as the theft is happening. This is done by cutting off the electrical flow to the car, or the fuel to the engine.
