#8 2010 Lexus HS 250h

#7 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid

This Mercury Hybrid has combined miles per gallon of 39, with a city MPG of 41 and a highway MPG of 36.  The vehicle itself has 4 cylinders with an engine size of 2.5 liters.  The transmission type for the vehicle is automatic.  This sister vehicle to the Ford Fusion offers more of a luxury style compared to the Ford Fusion.  

#6 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid FWD

This Ford Fusion has combined miles per gallon of 39, with a city MPG of 41 and a highway MPG of 36.  The vehicle itself has 4 cylinders with an engine size of 2.5 liters.  The vehicle also has an automatic transmission.  This is Ford’s first midsize sedan hybrid.  Hybrid vehicles work on both gasoline and electricity to power the vehicle while being fuel-efficient.  

#5 2001 Toyota Prius

This Prius has combined miles per gallon of 41 making it the best MPG on this list so far.  The city MPG is 42 and the highway MPG is 41.  This vehicle has 4 Cylinders and engine size of 1.5 liters.  This vehicle also has an Automatic Transmission.  If the 2001 model is too old for you.  Check out the 2002 and 2003 models, as they are very similar.  This Prius was the first generation in the U.S

#4 2010 Honda Insight

The Honda Insight has combined miles per gallon of 41, with a city MPG of 40 and a highway MPG of 43.  This vehicle has 4 cylinders with an engine size of 1.3 liters.  This vehicle also has an automatic transmission.  When this vehicle came out in 2010 it was one of the most affordable hybrid vehicles on the market.  

#3 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid

The 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid has combined miles per gallon of 42.  This Civic has a city MPG of 40 and a highway MPG of 45.  This vehicle has 4 cylinders with an engine size of 1.3 liters.  This vehicle has an automatic transmission type and can be compared to similar older models from 2003-2009.  

#2 2010 Toyota Prius

The Prius is back!  The 2010 model had a combined MPG of 50.  The city MPG is 51 and the highway MPG is 48.  This vehicle has 4 cylinders and an engine size of 1.8 liters.  This vehicle has an automatic transmission.  This is the third model of the Prius sold in the U.S.  Interestingly enough, this vehicle does better in the city than on the highway, making it one of the most unique vehicles on our list.

The Insight is back!  This older model honda insight is nothing to laugh about.  This vehicle has a combined MPG of 53.  A city MPG of 49 and a highway MPG of 61.  This vehicle has 3 cylinders and an engine size of 1 in liters.  This vehicle does however have a manual transmission but can be compared to similar newer models from 2001-2006.  This vehicle is a two-seater and was the first hybrid car in the U.S.  

There you have it!  The best fuel-efficient cars of the early 2000s.  Many of these fuel-efficient vehicles are built around the body style.  These vehicles are typically small, light, and sleek making them easier to move around compared to heavier and bigger vehicles.
